Dr Mark Carr

Group CEO, AB Sugar

Mark became Group CEO in April 2004, having previously been Managing Director of Corus Strip Products UK. In addition to his CEO role, he acts as Director of Vivergo, Chairman of Azucarera and Board Member of the World Sugar Research Organisation.

As CEO, he has overseen our transition from a UK-focused sugar business into a diverse global group with exciting ambitions for further growth.

Mark gained a Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wales in 1986 and an MBA from Warwick University in 1997. He is a chartered engineer of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers.

Quintin Heath

Human Resources Director, AB Sugar

Quintin joined AB Sugar in 2010 from ABF’s grocery division, where he was HR Director. Before that, he had been HR Director for Twinings Ovo, ABF's international beverage business, which he joined in 2001.

He also has wide-ranging HR and operational experience in the airline industry and retail services.

Quintin holds an MSc in HR and Business from Aston University and a BA in Economics.

Ben Hackett

Operations and Technology Director, AB Sugar

Ben joined AB Sugar in February 2012 from Dow Chemical Company, where he was Global Business Manufacturing Director.

He has a wealth of experience gained in a range of manufacturing roles in the agricultural chemicals sector, in locations across France, the UK and the USA.

Ben holds a BEng in Chemical Engineering from the University of Birmingham.

Daniel West

Strategy and Business Development Director, AB Sugar

Daniel joined AB Sugar in July 2011 from global consulting firm Booz & Company.

During his time at Booz, he gained extensive experience of delivering strategy, commercial and performance improvement initiatives for process businesses in Europe, the USA, Africa, Russia and the Middle East.

Daniel holds a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.

Jonathan Cowper

Finance Director, AB Sugar

Jonathan joined AB Sugar in March 2015 from engineering and project management consultancy Amec.

As Finance Director, he is responsible for strategic leadership, financial oversight and governance frameworks, internal audit and Group procurement.

Jonathan is a Chartered Management Accountant and holds an MSc in Strategic Business Management from Manchester Metropolitan University.

Tony Cheung

Managing Director, AB Sugar China

Tony became Managing Director of AB Sugar China in 2009, and has overall responsibility for all its Chinese operations.

He has an in-depth knowledge of the Chinese agri-food industry, having held senior positions at a number of major multinationals.

Tony is a business graduate of Hong Kong Polytechnic and also holds an MBA from the University of Hong Kong.

Paul Kenward

Managing Director, British Sugar

Paul became Managing Director of British Sugar in 2016. Previously he was Managing Director of Westmill Foods, an ABF business, and has also been Strategy and Business Development Director and Head of Business Development for ABF.

Paul graduated top of his year in Modern History from Oxford, and joined international strategy consultancy OC&C. He then became Director of Commercial Operations, Europe for EMI Records.

In 2003, he founded Addison & Steele, a visiting bespoke tailoring service serving customers in London, New York, Brussels and Dublin. He sold the business before joining ABF in 2007.

Gavin Dalgleish

Managing Director, Illovo Sugar

Gavin first joined Illovo in 1988 as a postgraduate student. He was appointed to the Illovo board in 2011, becoming Operations Director in 2012 and Managing Director in September 2013. 

He has held a number of technical, business development, operational and general management positions within Illovo. Most recently, he spent three years leading the global technology unit of yeast producer AB Mauri, another ABF business, before returning to Illovo in December 2010.

Gavin holds a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering.

Mark Chesworth

Managing Director, Vivergo Fuels

Mark joined Vivergo Fuels as Managing Director in December 2013.

He graduated from the University of Staffordshire with a BA in Business Studies. He began his career in planning and procurement for a clothing manufacturer before moving on to factory and supply-chain management roles in the UK, Dubai and Indonesia.

Mark first joined ABF in 2004, as Supply Chain Director for Ryvita, before becoming Operations Director for UK Grocery Group and then managing procurement and commodities on the board of Westmill, another ABF company.

Juan-Luis Rivero

Managing Director, Azucarera

Juan-Luis Rivero became Managing Director of Azucarera in October 2010 after joining the company as Finance Director in 2005.

He has previously held various finance and business performance roles in a number of multinational companies.

Juan-Luis has a degree in Business Administration from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.

Mats Liljestam

Commercial Director, AB Sugar

Mats joined AB Sugar in 2016 from Nordzucker AG, where he was Chief Marketing Officer. Before that, he was Executive Vice President of Sales, Marketing & Logistics for Dansico Sugar, before it was acquired by Nordzucker in 2009.

He has a wealth of experience of the sugar industry and particular expertise in developing European commercial and capability strategies.

Mats has a degree in Business Administration from the University of Lund.
